What is Miyagi-Jonet?

MIYAGI JO-NET (Miyagi Women’s Support Network) is a non-profit organisation supporting women in the Tohoku area that was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. We aim to connect the women in the affected areas with women and supporters from around Japan and the world. To this end, we are cooperating with various other women’s and relief organisations. Our many projects are designed to help women individually in reconstructing their lives and livelihoods. We thereby hope to brighten their everyday a little bit. We also collect relief/support goods and other donations to distribute them among the women and families affected by the disaster. Through regular meetings, our ‘salons,’ and consultations, we gain insight into women’s needs and concerns, and propose adequate measures to local and regional administrations.

Many of Miyagi Jonet’s members are women affected themselves by the disaster.

Announcement: Chiba Noriya to reopen

It has been a long time since we were last open and we apologize for any inconvenience.
On March 11th everything stopped and for a while we did not even have time to think of what to do next. However, thanks to your help we are now busy preparing to reopen our shop Chiba Noriya. We are extremely grateful for all of your support.
We began production again from July 1st using nori that had been stored inland, however it is only a small amount. Full production will be from the end of August. We are using nori of the highest quality, which has the best flavour and aroma of the season this year.

We are able to start again because of your help.
We will put our hearts into making our products and take our time to ensure their excellence. We look forward to serving you again, no matter what size the order.

Thank you once again for your continued support.
                    Chiba Noriya
In business for 90 years

Chiba Noriya is a manufacturer and seller of nori (dried seaweed) that has been running for 90 years. They only sell it in their shop and the flavour is protected by the 3rd generation of Chibas, sisters Hiroko and Kimiko.

Their house, which was also the shop and factory, was next to the Minamisanriku Disaster Prevention Centre and was completely destroyed.
When the two sisters met again after the disaster, they soon decided to start the business again.
However, there were many steps to be cleared - paying the bills, loss of the customer register, extremely difficult measures to receive support for small businesses – but they dealt with them slowly one by one and finally were able to produce once more their aromatic nori.
Because of the disaster, one matter that they had previously avoided because they thought it was too much bother, was that of training someone to take over. Now, if someone comes forward who wants to do it they will train her/him.
Please support these two extremely positive Chiba sisters and let all your friends know about them.                                                                                                                                                                           by mom.jonet

The nori from Chiba Noriya has a very deep aroma and taste.
Suppin Ichiban and Saratto shionori are each 200 yen a pack (tax included).
